Main actions

  • Project management and coordination

Ensure the smooth functioning of overall management, coordination, evaluation and reporting according to the highest quality standards and smooth collaboration among partners and with the agency.

  • FAGESOS-GIS

Creation of a GIS-based service platform for disease impact and risk assessment: The open-source platform will be made publicly accessible and will support policy makers, public technical agencies, and landowners, growers, and forest managers to plan and implement targeted measures to prevent and mitigate the risk of disease spread. Regional maps for disease risk and impact are based on models using climate and landscape variables, as well as spectral remote sensing and ground verifications.

    FAGESOS-GIS

  • Development of new treatment and ground monitoring protocols for use in integrated pest management

In mesocosm experiments, at least one product from each mechanism of action (biocontrol molecules, resistance inducers, antagonists, and plant growth promoters) is selected for inclusion in IPMs. In parallel, protocols are developed to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and the impact of IPM, and microorganism-based products are made for demonstrations to be carried out in work package 4.

  • Large-scale application of new IPM protocols

They will specify for each ecosystem or host (chestnut, holm oak, and cork oak) the combination of resistance inducer, biocontrol molecule, antagonist complex, formulation and application strategy, schedule of different treatments, qualification and quantification, and management of hygiene measures. According to the defined schedule, taking into account site and climate characteristics, IPM protocols will be applied in all project areas.

Large-scale application of new IPM protocols

  • Communication, outreach and awareness

Target groups will be made aware of the threat posed by P. cinnamomi and informed about ways to contribute to its prevention. They range from forest managers, forest owners, forestry professionals, policy makers, school students, the general public, tourists, industry experts, and public authorities.

  • Sustainability, replication and exploitation of project results

Policy recommendations will be developed and commercial exploitation and effective replication by stakeholders will be planned. Conditions for future adoption will be created through the provision of guidelines and manuals, a pool of resistant native germaplasma will be established, and IPM protocols will be harmonized through benchmarking.

Sustainability, replication and exploitation of project results

  • Monitoring and evaluation of results and impacts

The effectiveness of field measures and treatments is evaluated, along with socio-economic effects and outcomes in terms of key performance indicators.
